Since March 1, 1872 when President U.S. Grant, a Republican, signed a bill to make Yellowstone a national park, our country’s presidents have consistently sought to protect natural resources from those who would plunder them for profit.
With one major exception - Donald Trump. On April 26, 2017 he signed an Executive Order (#13792) slashing the size of Utah’s Bears Ears National Monument by 85% in favor of uranium-mining interests, and reducing Utah’s Escalante-Grand Staircase by about half, benefitting coal interests. It was the largest national monument reduction in U.S . history.
Urged on by his Supreme Court buddy, chief justice John Roberts, Trump promises more reductions should he win a second term.
