Vikki Goodwin makes strong case for Colin Allred at NSD event; calls Cruz out on his hypocrisy

By Mike Killalea, NSD president

Colin Allred is a guy who will work for the people of Te4xas while Ted Cruz bobs and weaves, but does not serve. Instead, during deadly winter storm Yuri, Ted Can-Cruz decides it’s a great time for a family vacation in sunny Mexico. (See below for info on how to help Allred)

Vikki Goodwin, state Rep for HD-47, pointed to one said example of the stark differences between the two men. In 2019, Joey Reed sought help from Can-Cruz in freeing his son Trevor, who had been arrested in Russia and was in custody there. Reed said Can-Cruz was the first person they called, but that he didn't help them at all.

“Cruz’s office said no, we can’t help you, but Colin Allred helped,” Goodwin said.

Joey Reed has endorsed Colin Allred over Ted Cruz for Senate. Reed said it was an easy decision for him to make.

"It's the direct interaction that we had with Ted Cruz and his failure to assist us in any way when everyone else in the Congress did, and especially all the Congressmen from Texas from both parties," Reed said.

While visiting his Russian girlfriend in Moscow, Trevor was accused of assaulting a police officer and was prosecuted and jailed until he was released in 2022. Reed said his son was wrongfully detained and called the prosecution a hoax by the Russian government.

Can-Cruz’s staff said Can-Cruz refused to help because “Vladimir Putin hated him so much that if he helped us that it would hurt our case," Reed said. "I should say, we've spoken to Ted Cruz once. He called us the day my son was released and congratulated us and asked if there was anything that we needed.

“We told him directly that what we needed was his help three years earlier."

Reed recorded a TV ad for Allred and said as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the North Texas Congressman was supportive. "So, we need more people like Colin Allred, who will work with the other side to come to a compromise and something that you know both sides can live with."

Allred works across the aisle: not Ted

Goodwin noted that, like herself, Colin Allred reaches out to the opposition to solve problems of mutual concern, to find places of commonality. Republican Liz Cheney, former Wyoming representative and co-chair of the January 6 Select Committee, recently endorsed Allred for Senate.

Talk about reaching across the aisle!

Meanwhile Can-Cruz is notable as the least liked, and most partisan member of the Senate. Can-Cruz has hastily attempted to change his “me mine me mine” reputation, but with little success.

But he has much to overcome.

The hypocrisy of Ted Cruz

Vikki Goodwin pointed out, for example, that the Biden Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act, which Can-Cruz voted against, has been great for Texas, creating 177,000 jobs in green energy.

He also opposed the Building Chips in America Act, a bipartisan bill that would streamline permitting and help CHIPS Act projects get done in a timely manner. This bipartisan bill was co-led in the House by Congressman Colin Allred.

The original CHIPS and Science Act has now brought billions in new investment to Texas – from $1.6 billion to Dallas-based Texas Instruments to construct three new plants, including two in Sherman, to $6.4 billion for Samsung’s plant in Taylor.

A bipartisan coalition of Texans worked to pass this landmark legislation, but Can-Cruz voted against it.

But that doesn’t stop Can-Cruz from crowing about the new jobs and taking credit for them.

Said Vikki Goodwin, “Ted Cruz votes against it, but he’ll come to Texas, and he’ll talk about the good jobs that were created in the semiconductor industry.”

He has no shame.
